Canada's counter-tariffs take effect

15 to 50 percent on C$27.6 billion of U.S. goods

Canada's retaliation took effect: 15 to 50 percent on C$27.6 billion of American goods. The White House answered the same day with import bans dated September 29, a revised tariff list dated September 15, and Canadian goods struck from federal purchasing schedules.

Three weeks earlier this was a deal announced in capital letters. It is now two governments keeping a calendar of tariffs against each other, and the New York Fed's estimate of who carries the cost has not changed: nearly 90 percent of it lands here.
