U.S. import bans on Canadian goods take effect

Import bans on Canadian goods are dated for today, the third step in a sequence that began with a deal announced in capital letters on August 18 and buried by August 22.

The 50 percent tariffs are in force. Canada's counter-tariffs are in force. What was sold as leverage has become a schedule that both governments now keep against each other, on the dates they set.
